Manufacturing Tools

Machine Centre

The Machine Centre software makes it possible to design tooling for a given manufacturing method. It is important for the designer to check the influence of tolerancing on contact before moving to manufacture.Of equal importance to the manufacturer, whether in-house or outsourced, it links directly to the Gear Design Pro module so that changes to the rating through tooling choice and manufacturing methods can be assessed. It contains a tool database so that existing tooling can be selected and assessed. Using existing tooling could lead to reduction in costs (or increased profits) and shorter lead times for cost effective manufacturing. It has variants for Hobbing, Grinding (with Dressing), Shaving, and Shaping, Wire Erosion and Injection Moulding.

Inspection Centre

The Inspection Centre imports measurement data from external gear measurement devices whether dedicated gear checker or coordinate measuring machine. An evaluation can be performed to ISO, AGMA or DIN. The imported data can be used by other tools in the Suite such as Load Analysis Model or Optimal for optimising tooling an machining processes. It can also be used to carry out more complex functions not available in the measuring device such as statistical evaluation or virtual dynamic tests such as single or double flank testing on a more cost effective basis.

The module can be used as as part of the Gear Production Suite or integrated with other measuring devices and software tools.

By combining with data editing and measurement analysis functions, the aim is to provide a quick method to optimise the generation of gear forms in various production techniques. The technique can be applied to arbitrary gear forms whether nominal, segmented, asymmetric, or even non-circular. The program utilises various interfaces to CAD systems, metrology equipment (dedicated gear metrology machines, touch sensor CMM, optic sensor CMM), and machine tools. The software calculates inherent errors from the machining process by comparing measured results to those generated by CAD sources (ASCII, VDA, and DXF format files). The error measurements can be evaluated according to recognised metrology standards. Proposals for improvement to the tooling and machining procedure can be made to enable efficient closed loop manufacturing procedure.
